On October 25, 2024, the LA County Regional Planning Commission approved the latest version of the Westside Area Plan (WSAP) after a lengthy community hearing. While the final decision rests with the County Board of Supervisors (“Supervisors”), the Commission serves as an advisory body. LHCA, UHA and many community members came out to express their concerns about the WSAP and the Plan Area Standards District (”PASD”). We were disappointed that the Commission felt pressured to approve the WSAP due to state funding concerns, despite acknowledging unaddressed issues such as coordination with the city of Los Angeles and flaws in the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA).
While approving the WSAP, the Commission recommended that the Supervisors challenge the state law mandating increased residential density.
LHCA plans to continue advocating for the interests of Ladera residents as the Supervisors prepare for a hearing to finalize the WSAP and PASD in early 2025. Residents are encouraged to continue sharing their concerns with Supervisor Mitchell during this period.
